Swimming
Ramblewood Recommends: Setting up a lawn chair on our beach with your feet in the water and a good book (and sunscreen) as you look at Mt. Magalloway.
At Ramblewood you are welcome to relax at our waterfront. Since the beach is rocky, we recommend wearing footwear in the water. We cannot allow diving from the docks, and no lifeguard is on duty. Dogs are allowed on the beach. The area near the docks is for unloading cars only, parking is located behind Moosewood and Mountain Ash cabins.
In Pittsburg the picnic area on 1st Connecticut Lake 1 mile south of the lakeside cabins on Rt. 3 has charcoal barbecues and a sandy beach.
Motorboats
Ramblewood Recommends: Renting the 10hp with your family and visiting the picnic area and shelter on the other side of 1st Connecticut Lake. Keep an eye out for bald eagles!
At Ramblewood: We have 5, 8 and 10hp aluminum skiffs available to rent by the day or half day from our docks on First Connecticut Lake. Rates and details are available here. Please let us know when making your reservation if you are interested in leaving your boat at our dock during your stay.
In Pittsburg:
- 1st Connecticut Lake boat launch is located less than 1/2 a mile from our lakeside cabins. A shallower boat launch is located further south on Route 3.
- 2nd Connecticut Lake boat launch is located on 2nd Connecticut Lake dam road, a right turn off of route 3. There is a large brown sign at the turn.
- 3rd Connecticut Lake boat launch is on the left, north of 1st and 2nd lakes. It is located just before the border and has parking.
Kayaking
Ramblewood Recommends: Paddling around East inlet at sunrise
At Ramblewood: We have single and double kayaks and a canoe available to rent by the day or half day from our docks on First Connecticut Lake. Rates and details are available here. Parking is located behind Mountain Ash cabin.
In Pittsburg: Try East Inlet and 2nd or 3rd Connecticut lake.
Whitewater Kayaking/Rafting
In Pittsburg the Connecticut River has a 1 mile stretch south of Murphy Dam of class III-IV rapids. The takeout is a mile south by the covered bridge on Bacon Road. The area is popular with fishermen as well, so keep that in mind when you’re planning a trip early in the morning or at dusk.
In Northern New Hampshire Guided half and full day trip are available through Northern Waters Rafting along the Errol Rapids on the Androscoggin. They are located about 50 minutes away in Errol, just past LL Cote’s outdoor store
